A business card signed by Steve Jobs sold at a record price
A business card signed by the Silicon Valley genius was presented for the RR Auction “Steve Jobs and the Apple Computer Revolution” auction. Like many other lots, this small object went for record amounts.
The auction presented a wide range of objects related to American society. Sophisticated technological objects could be found, but also personal items that belonged to Steve Jobs. Of these, a business card from 1983 aroused the most interest. So much so that it finally sold for a staggering price of 181,183 dollars.
Apple, a brand that fascinates
Steve Jobs' legacy at Apple remains a source of fascination. This 40-year-old business card is proof of that.
First of all, you should know that this business card had to be authenticated by the prestigious PSA souvenir filing service. This relic features the brand's historic logo, the famous multi-colored apple. It also contains Apple's former address in Cupertino, California. At the time, Steve Jobs was Chairman of the Board of Directors there.
This precious artifact, which is among the most sought-after signed items, has therefore set a new auction record. It thus competes with rare pieces such as the first unopened iPhones or checks signed by the co-founder of Apple.
The legacy of Steve Jobs, who died in 2011 at the age of 56, lives on. The fact that he is Reputed for not giving autographs has added a particular aura to its signatures, increasing their value on the collections market. This business card testifies to the continuing craze for memories linked to the Apple icon.
Anecdotally, there is a letter in which Steve Jobs explains that he does not want to sign an autograph because he assimilates this to real signatures. It is a sample of the unique philosophy of the entrepreneur.
Numerous items sold
The business card is not the only lot to have reached astronomical amounts. Other items at the auction were also very popular and were sold at remarkable prices. This is for example the case of a iPhone 1 4GB still sealed in its box. He found a buyer for the modest sum of 147,286 dollars. However, it is still slightly below the previous record, which dates back to July 2023 with the sale of an almost identical product for 190,372.80 dollars!
Then, another iPhone from 2007, 4GB with its original Apple Store receipt, was sold for $133,435.20. iPhones from this era were generally in high demand, especially the 4GB iPhone 1, which was only released for two months. This makes it an extremely rare and highly sought after piece.
The prototype Apple mouse dating from 1984 was sold for 14,616 dollars, while two Apple Watch Hermes Series 0 were sold for 9,375 and 10,865 dollars respectively.
However, the culmination of the sale was the Apple-1 signed by Steve Wozniak, the other creator of Apple. The smartphone was sold for an impressive $323,789.
